The temperament and experience to understand our community and help it succeed

I was born and raised in Arkansas.

I got my electrical engineering degree from Rose-Hulman Inst. Of Technology in Terre Haute IN. I met my wife, Kathy, there where she was attending college in the same town. We married while still in college. After college I served in the US Navy as a nuclear submarine officer. After leaving the Navy, we moved to Georgia then South Carolina. I spent about ten years servicing industrial power distribution systems and traveled extensively in NC during that time working shut down maintenance.

In 1999 I switched careers to industrial automation starting with Fuji Film. I also earned a masters degree in control systems engineering remotely from Oklahoma State while working.  This eventually led me to move to North Carolina where I joined Nomacorc and later GSK. I worked for three different global manufacturing companies and have traveled internationally for work.

I closed out my career by switching to cyber security while still at GSK, primarily protecting industrial infrastructure from cyber-attack for GSK on six continents. I retired last year. My wife and I will celebrate our 42nd anniversary this year. We moved into our current home in Wake County twenty years ago. We have two children and eight grandchildren in the area.

I became a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party many years ago out of frustration with failure of the establishment parties to reduce the regulatory, tax, and debt burden on the American people.  I am running for the NC House to increase the freedom needed for human flourishing and reduce the cost of living for families. I want to continue the push to increase choice in education and reduce the income tax burden. We can also lower health care costs by eliminating the certificate of need requirement that restricts competition and access to healthcare. And we need rational property tax reform so that rising home values do not lead to automatic increases in the tax you pay.

A free North Carolina is a better North Carolina.

Too many of our children, citizens and small business owners are denied the opportunity to succeed in North Carolina. I want to change government’s role in our state and in our lives. Our government and established interests have chosen to defend existing power structures, not people. We need to return power to our citizens and allow them the freedom to choose what is best for their family and future. All parents should be able to choose the best school for their children with their tax dollars. Business owners should be able to open and grow a business and not have to fight regulations that don’t make us safer but only give power to those with deeper pockets. We need to work on fixing healthcare by returning real choice to the patient and real competition to the market. Freedom is a solution.
